G’day folks,
Some exciting news, I have been working for a while on designing a tool to help beginners who are new to star tracker mounts to achieve a good polar alignment without using the polar scope. It’s often a struggle here in the southern hemisphere to find Octans in the scope. Last night I tested my gadget and it works!
It took me all of 10 minutes to set up and polar align my rig without even looking through the scope! The photo here was 10 x 3 1/2 minute exposures shot at a 21mm focal length and stacked incredible for no scope.
My gadget currently only fits the Sky-Watcher Star adventurer mount but I will be working on one to fit ioptron as well. Requires an iPhone or android phone with an app but the best part is there is no phone signal required so will work anywhere. In testing the iPhone performed best but the android was good for 2-3 minute exposures.
